A shooting incident caught shoppers and workers by surprise today.
The shooting took place in a mall in Louisiana’s capital, Baton Rouge. America’s state of Louisiana borders the states of Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi, and the Gulf of Mexico on one side.
Five people were injured, and one died in the unfortunate afternoon incident. Police said the shooting took place slightly before 1:30 p.m.
It appears two groups got into an altercation near a food court inside the mall, and a gun fight ensued between them.
Mall Arrests
The Baton Rouge Police Chief disclosed they had arrested five suspects in relation to the shooting incident. However, he clarified that the five are in police custody for questioning, and not necessarily to be charged.
He also said it was clear the shooting was not random. He said two groups had disagreed on something, then the row escalated.
He said it was very unfortunate that some innocent people were caught in` the crossfire. The shoot-out in this case may not have been planned.
However, although it cannot be equated to the recent shooting in a Turkish school, it is apparent that the shooters came prepared for any eventuality.
Police think there may have been other people involved in the shooting, and they are looking for them. They think the CCTV cameras in and around the mall might help, even as they question the people in custody.
