
A 13-year-old boy took his father’s five guns to school and shot at students. The boy, in 8th grade, carried the guns along with 7 magazines in a backpack, then went to two classrooms and began shooting randomly.
He killed 9 people and injured more than 12. One teacher was among the dead. The sad incident took place at a Middle School in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province, in the country’s southern region.
The shooter died of a gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted. The culprit’s father, Ugur Mersinli, was a police officer but is now retired. According to a local news outlet, police have detained him. This shooting incident took place on Wednesday, the 15th, just one day after another similar shooting.
The country’s Interior Minister pointed out that the shooting was the second of its kind in a span of two days. The area Governor, Mukerrem Unluer, told the media that 4 of the injured people had been taken in for surgery. Initially, 6 of the injured had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Meanwhile, the country’s Justice Minister Akin Gurlek informed the public that 7 prosecutors are already working on the investigation, which is already underway.
