Lindsey Graham, the Republican senator for South Carolina, died on Saturday after an emergency medical situation. He had just returned from Ukraine. Graham was 71 years old.

Lindsey Graham has always been supportive of Ukraine. In fact, he always lobbied for the US government to support Ukraine militarily and financially. The most recent visit was just one of several visits he made to Ukraine since Russia attacked the country in
2022.

What led to the death of Lindsey Graham?

According to audio recording the media obtained from police records, emergency staff dashed to Capitol Hill at night regarding Graham. From the audio, they understood that someone was administering CPR to the senator.

Sources close to the senator say that he did not show any signs of ill health when he returned home. In fact, NBC expected to interview him the following day in “Meet the Press”. Graham Lindsey has appeared on NBC over 60 times on the overall.

Officially, it is said that Senator Lindsey Graham died from the rupturing of his heart’s aorta. Such rupture is said to occur when the arteries are hardened.

Condolences Messages for Graham’s Family

The family of Lindsey Graham continue to receive messages of condolences following his sudden demise. President Donald Trump was among the first people to send condolence messages.

He termed the South Carolina senator “true American patriot. He also ordered that the American flag be hoisted half mast in honor of Graham. This, he said, should continue for one week, up to Saturday.

Political Implications of Lindsey Graham’s Death

For President Trump, he has lost a staunch supporter. He was among the politicians who were supportive of the US attack on Iran.

Senator Lindsey Graham was going to offer himself for re-election in November this year. In fact, he had already won the Republican primaries. Hence, the Republican Party now needs to conduct a special primary.

Graham never lost an election since becoming senator in 2003. Hence he represented South Carolina for almost 23 years. He was a lawyer by profession, and once served as a prosecutor in the military.

Meanwhile, President Trump has recommended that Darline Graham Nordone, the late senator’s sister, complete his current senate term. If that happens, she will hold fort until January 2027 when the newly elected members begin their term.

Lindsey Graham brought up Darline Nordone after their parents died. She was only 13. Later, he adopted her formally, to ensure that she gets to inherit his earned benefits.
