More than 100 flights, both local and international, have been canceled since yesterday. Around 120 flight cancellations have been reported in Canada in the course of the week. Almost 60 of them were in Vancouver.
Earlier on, flight cancellations were due to anticipated storms. However, there also seems to be a jet fuel problem. In some instances, jet fuel prices have nearly doubled.
Apparently, not all flight cancellations were inevitable. In some cases, flight suspensions and cancellations have been purely for economic reasons. Hence, some travelers may be tempted to seek compensation. In short, the war has caused oil shortages, but airlines could still operate, only with lower profits.
Airports in Toronto, Vancouver, and elsewhere have been affected. As such, Canadian airports request that ticketholders consult their airlines before reporting to their respective airports.
This is understandable because, for now, the unpredictability is almost like that caused by an airport mishap.
Affected Airlines
Among the airlines that have suspended flights are Air Canada and West Jet. Significantly affected airports include Toronto Pearson and Montreal-Trudeau.
Travel agents have reported a ripple effect whenever a flight has been canceled. For example, hotel reservations and local travel arrangements are affected.
