Yesterday, a group of men assaulted the Senator for Vihiga County, Godfrey Osotsi, in Kisumu in broad daylight. A CCTV footage circulating online shows one hooded man kicking the senator on the head while he was still on the floor.
It is alleged that the attackers, who confronted Osotsi at a Coffee House in the lakeside city, kept asking why he was against the government.
The senator’s Director of Communication reportedly later clarified that the senator had been out for a haircut and then proceeded to the restaurant.
Brave Hotel Waiters Save Senator Osotsi
It took the intervention of hotel waiters to mitigate the situation and enable Senator Osotsi to receive help. The senator was soon airlifted to a hospital in Nairobi, where he is receiving treatment.
Many leaders, led by those in the ODM renegade faction, Linda Mwananchi, have condemned the attack. Meanwhile, Kenyans in general are exasperated by the acts of political violence in recent months and hope the situation does not escalate.
