Popular journalist, Michael Oyier, has died.
Kenya learnt of his demise as the country reeled from the loss of it’s Chief of Defense Forces, General Francis Ogolla.
Ogolla was laid to rest on Sunday, 21st 2024, in a ceremony that was graced by senior church leaders, foreign dignitaries, and politicians. Among the senior politicians present were Kenya’s President William Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Michael Oyier, who died on Saturday, April 20th will be remembered for several positive attributes. He was eloquent, both on screen and off-screen, smartly dressed, and humble.
Oyier worked for more than a decade as a journalist in Kenya, before leaving to serve as a counselor. He held a bachelor’s and Masters degree, and was duly certified to offer counseling services.
Once in a while, the beloved Michael Oyier would grace corporate functions as the Master of Ceremony (MC). One of the companies that remember him fondly for his prowess as an MC is the East African Cables. He occasionally served as a wonderful MC during the tenure of Mugo Kibati as MD.
Michael Oyier’s Family & Career
Michael Oyier was an elder brother to Peter Oyier, whom Kenyans recognize as a journalist too.
The two brothers once worked for the same employer – Radio Africa – at the same time. Michael presented the Prime News while Peter handled Sports News.
During his many years as a journalist, Michael worked for big media outlets, among them KTN and NTV.
The Demise of Michael Oyier
Michael Oyier died while under hospitalization in Nairobi.
He is alleged to have suffered a severe headache on Wednesday, before collapsing in his house at one of Nairobi’s posh estates. He was then rushed to hospital for treatment.
Michael Oyier is survived by his 2 children, 3 brothers, and a sister.
