Mūkūrwe-inī MP John Kaguchia is reportedly held at the Kamūkūnji Police Station, Nairobi. Surprisingly, his lawyers say they do not know the reason for his arrest.
Honourable John Kaguchia was arrested Monday morning and driven to the DCI Headquarters, Mūthaiga. But apparently, the officer who arrested him had said he would be taken to Milimani Police Station.
Honourable Kaguchia is said to have spent Sunday night holed up at the Citizen Studios, Nairobi, fearing abduction.
He said he had earlier observed several vehicles tracking him, and they had hooded occupants in them. Oddly, they ended up camping outside the Royal Media offices waiting for the legislator.
Fear of Abduction is Real
In Kenya today, people do not take the threat of abduction lightly. Many who have been abducted by hooded men ended up hurt and traumatized. Moreover, nothing much seems to come out of promised police investigations.
During the July 2026 Ol Kalou by-election campaigns, Honourable Kaniini Keega was visibly shaken as he reported an attempt to abduct him. He informed Kenyans of his predicament online, from a humble hideout in Nyandarūa.
In June 2026, human rights activist Davis Lichuma was found badly hurt and traumatized after going missing for 3 days. He was among protestors marking the 2nd anniversary of Gen-Z protests where some young people died.
Mūkūrwe-inī MP Knows the Law
Although Kaguchia’s lawyers say nobody has told them why he was arrested, there is a rumour doing the rounds. Kaguchia’s arrest is being linked to remarks he recently made at a public meeting.
He himself seemed to confirm that reason before his arrest. He said that some pro-government individuals had twisted some remarks he made in Nyeri on Saturday.
However, it seems unlikely that Kaguchia would utter words that are legally unacceptable. Besides being a B.Com holder, the Mūkūrwe-inī MP also holds a Law degree and is a member of LSK.
Hence, it would not be surprising if what he had said was irritating to government ears but within his legal and human mandate.
Although Honourable Kaguchia is a staunch supporter of the former Deputy President Rīgathī Gachagua, his worrisome experience is not confined to DCP members. A couple of months ago, some hooded individuals attacked Senator Osotsi in Kisumu. Osotsi is a member of Linda Mwananchi, a faction that split from the ODM Party of the late Raila Odinga.
Update: Court Orders Kaguchia’s Release
Lady Justice Njoki Mwangi ruled in favour of Kaguchia on Monday afternoon. After hearing a petition filed by Kaguchia’s supporters, she ordered that he deposit sh.100,000 cash bail to secure his release.
She underlined that the police should release the MP as soon as his cash bail is paid.
However, hours later, the DCP leader, Rīgathī Gachagua, Kaguchia’s lawyers, and his supporters seemed not to know his whereabouts. It seems like despite the court order, John Kaguchia may spend Monday night in police custody.
