A US publication, The Atlantic, this week carried a report of heavy drinking by the FBI Director, Kash Patel. While the FBI Director is threatening to sue the publication, the author stands by her report.
She says she spoke to up to 24 people familiar with the FBI Director’s behavior before compiling the report. She also added that her sources consider Patel’s behavior to be adding a vulnerability to national security.
What are Patel’s actual accusations?
It has been reported that Patel is sometimes unreachable when needed, which affects his performance as FBI Director. Patel’s excessive drinking also poses a challenge to his security, who at times have trouble waking him up after a drinking spree.
Another concern is that major meetings and briefings are often interfered with by Patel’s habit of staying up late drinking. This is particularly so, the report said, whenever the FBI Director is on a trip to either Washington, D.C., or the city of Las Vegas.
Despite Kash Patel threatening to sue The Atlantic, some uncorroborated reports indicate he has recently been anxious about his possible firing.
White House Stands by Patel
The White House seems to be supportive of the FBI Director, citing a drop in crime under the Trump administration, with Patel a key player.
On a different note, critics have been questioning Kash Patel’s credentials and fitness to handle matters of national security. One can only hope that his alleged behavior had nothing to do with the recent hacking of his email account.
