Unverified reports indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei is alive but deliberately avoiding visibility.
However, he is said to have sustained serious injuries in the incident where his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, lost his life.
The first day of the US/Israeli – Iran war saw the killing of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and his close associates within his office premises. Since Mojtaba, his son who had been serving as his assistant, survived the missile attack, Iran chose him to replace his father.
Mojtaba Responding Well to Treatment
Word has it that Mojtaba has been receiving treatment from an undisclosed location. Considering he is among the Iranian leaders the US has been targeting for assassination, it is understandable that he should keep a low profile.
The injuries Mojtaba sustained on 28th February 2026 are said to be serious. However, his recovery is reportedly good. One of the impressive developments is that the Supreme Leader is reportedly mentally fit and sharp.
However, it is reported that he sustained burn injuries on his face during the attempted assassination.
For that reason, he needs plastic surgery. The serious injuries he sustained have allegedly led to several operations, especially on one hand and one leg. He is even said to require a prosthetic for the leg.
Maintaining Mojtaba’s Privacy
To keep Mojtaba’s whereabouts private and concealed from Iran’s enemies, particularly the Israeli intelligence, he is said to receive very few visitors.
Top Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leadership, for instance, does not pay him visits, because their movements are likely to be traced.
Fortunately, the Iranian President, who is also a doctor by profession, is among the few people who visit him, alongside the medical personnel.
Even if details about Mojtaba’s health are scanty, Iranians must be glad to know that he is at least alive and recuperating. For the last two months, people could only speculate whether he was alive or not.
Every time he has made a public statement, it has been in writing. He has not appeared before a camera since he sustained the injuries.
