Police in Italy are searching nationwide for men who robbed a bank in an upmarket part of Naples. Eyewitnesses say they could have been three or four of them, and they were armed.
The robbers entered the bank around 12:30 on Thursday, April 16th, and held 12 people hostage. They then emptied 40 safe boxes, a task that took more than an hour.
Police Rescue Hostages
It was not until 2 p.m. that the police were able to rescue the hostages. Luckily, although they were visibly shocked, none of them was hurt.
According to the hostages, the robbers wore masks depicting movie actors, mimicking the Netflix drama Money Heist.
It is said that the robbers accessed the bank through an underground tunnel linked to sewers. Apparently, they escaped through the same route, and nobody seemed to know where they escaped to.
In recent days, robbers have devised ways to steal without causing a commotion in nearby communities. While some, like this Naples gang, use physically devious methods, others use electronic fraud.
