There was a hilarious moment during the Oscars, when John Cena appeared on stage virtually nude. The joke hit home better when Cena disclosed that he was there to announce the winner of the Costumes Award!
Cena is a popular professional wrestler and actor.
The whole nude scenario was well choreographed, with Jimmy Kimmel initially appearing to coax Cena into keeping to the plan.
Kimmel, who is popularly known for his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, was the host of the 2024 awards ceremony.
This year was Kimmel’s 4th time to host the awards, the previous years being 2017, 2018, and 2023.
Historically, there is another memorable Oscar moment when someone appeared on stage naked. That was in 1974. Robert Opel, who owned an art gallery, ran nude across the stage near one of the hosts, David Niven, to the bewilderment of the host and the audience.
Oscars Almost Hitting 100 years!
This year’s Oscars, which were the 96th since their inception, were held on the evening of Sunday, March 10th. The Oscar awards, also known as the Academy awards, were first presented to winning artists in 1929 in Los Angeles, California.
The tradition has continued ever since, although the ceremony that took 15 minutes in 1929 now lasts over three hours.
As for the 2024 Oscars nude act, it has since been established that John Cena’s groin was not at risk of exposure. He seemed to have covered himself solely with an envelope, but apparently, a more elaborate artistic gimmick had been used to secure his private area.
