England vs Argentina ended up in a 1:2 score in favor of Argentina.
The England vs Argentina 2026 semi-final was thrilling but tense. In fact, both teams played viciously and committed a number of fouls especially in the first half of the game.
England committed 7 fouls while Argentina committed 12. And although Argentina ended up winning, England was not a walkover either. Argentina possessed the ball 56% of the time, meaning that England managed 44%.

The first half of the game kept fans at the edge of their seats. However, it ended without a goal.
Then in the second half, Anthony Gordon of England scored the first goal against Argentina. That was in the 55th minute. It took a while for Argentina to find England’s net, but in the 85th minute, Enzo Fernandez did. Hence, Argentina vs England was a 1:1 draw at the end of normal time.
Then came stoppage time. Lautara Martinez, whom Argentina had brought in at the 81st minute as a substitute defender excited the stadium. He scored in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.
The game had 9 minutes of stoppage time, and the teams did not slow down during the remaining 7. Nevertheless, Martinez’ remained the last goal of the 23rd World Cup semi-finals.
Argentina to Meet Spain in the 2026 World Cup
If on July 19, 2026 Argentina wins the FIFA World Cup, it will be it’s 4th time. If Spain wins, it will be it’s 2nd, having won its first World Cup title in 2010.
Spain best the Netherlands in South Africa in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, Argentina carried the trophy in 1978 and 1986, and the last one, in 2022.
Games Remaining after Argentina vs England
The next World Cup game will be played on Saturday, July 18. That day, England will play against France for the 3rd position.
The next day, July 19, is the climax of the 23rd World Cup tournament. Spain, which beat France in the semis, will play against Argentina. And if last night’s game is anything to go by, Argentina will fight tooth and nail to defend its title.
Whether Lionel Messi and his team will succeed is yet to be seen. As for Spain, it’s players might need to be more aggressive for its strikers to score. Certainly, it will require everyone’s push, including the defenders like Pedro Porro.
