Ghana has lost a promising young footballer in a senseless killing. 20-year-old Dominic Frimpong, a winger for the Berekum Chelsea Club, died on Sunday, 13th April, in a shooting incident. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) broke the news to the nation today.
What happened to Dominic Frimpong?
Frimpong and his teammates were on their way home from a football match when a gun-wielding gang ambushed them on the Goaso–Bibiani road. The driver’s attempt to reverse and escape failed, and the gang continued to fire their assault weapons.
The attackers, who wore masks, had blocked the bus from passing, and the players suspected it was an attempted robbery. Unfortunately, Frimpong was shot and fatally wounded as everyone scampered to safety.
He and his teammates had participated in a Premier League fixture during the day in Samreboi, Western Ghana. They had played one of Ghana’s professional clubs, Samartex, and conceded one goal, resulting in a 1-0 win for Samartex.
