Has the influence of the AIPAC, the pro-Israel group, become too much? Has the US given too much political leeway to a foreign state?

There is a pro-Israel lobby group in the US called the AIPAC. The abbreviation stands for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). The group’s main agenda is to advance the cause of Israel, which it does in different ways.

The obvious one is to keep urging the US government to maintain strong ties with Israel. To make it easier for the government of the day to advance Israel’s agenda, the group makes financial contributions toward political campaigns. It particularly contributes generously toward the election of pro-Israel candidates.

What Experts Think of AIPAC’s Influence in America

Michael T. Lester, a combat pilot formerly in the US Marine Corps and a former US Naval Academy instructor, considers AIPAC an occupying force. This equates the group to a foreign country that could have invaded and occupied American territory.

The US Sends Israel Money Religiously

To support his premise, Lester cites the $18 billion the US sends to Israel every year, with no corresponding returns. To him, it might have been understandable if there was some humanitarian work Israel undertakes with that money.

On the contrary, Lester notes, Israel engages in atrocities in Gaza, which he categorizes as genocide. They relish killing Palestinians, as seen in the striking of the Muhanna residential high-rise building in September last year, 2025.

The Israeli Live Better than the Americans

Lester notes that the Israeli standard of living is higher than that of the US. Also, the population of the Middle Eastern country has a longer life expectancy than that of the USA.

Lester also cites a list of other benefits not available in the US but enjoyed by Israel. They include free education, free health care, and free housing.

There is also insurance, in which the Israeli government insures every resident as stipulated in the National Insurance Law. Yet, the US government, and by extension the US population, keeps sending Israel money.

Fanatical Show of Support for Israel

A US Congressman from Florida last year showed up at a Republican Party meeting donning an Israeli army uniform. The display might have caused great condemnation within and outside the party, had the uniform belonged to another foreign country.

Florida Congressman Brian Mast had what he considered a good explanation to the media when asked about his choice of outfit.

He did not find it odd that he came to a meeting at the Congressional premises dressed like an IDF soldier. Ordinarily, in any country, such behavior would be considered treasonous.

There are other incidents where Israel’s influence over the US has been undeniable. For instance, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once addressed the US Congress directly, and the members gave him 26 standing ovations.

The Israeli Money Influence

Lester, the electrical engineering expert, sees money as the most influential factor. Through AIPAC, Israel does not seem to limit how much money it can spend to influence the country’s choice of candidates.

He says statistics show that in 94% of cases, the candidate who spends the most money wins the election. Israel’s influence on US elections is probably why the support for Israel is almost unanimous in Congress.

Lester says that any elected leader who has ever spoken against Israel or its lobby group, AIPAC, lost the following election. That was because AIPAC would heavily fund such a leader’s rival candidate.

The Reason Non-Politicians Do Not Complain about Israel’s Influence

According to the former combat pilot, whenever non-partisan individuals, including experts, try to highlight the imbalance, they are quickly shut down.

The go-to arsenal to kill the debate, he says, is to deem the analysts or complainants anti-Semitic.
