Last week, the UK Metropolitan Police seized 500 phones from a high-end shop in Northwest London because they suspected the phones were stolen.
The police went to the shop on Kilburn High Road with a search warrant, passed aisles of goods, and forced their way into a locked room. Stacks of phones lay on shelves, with phone packaging set aside separately.
Initially, the police were out to search for drugs in that shop. The Metropolitan police had received tips that the shop was dealing with Class B drugs.
About Class B Drugs
In the UK, Class B drugs are controlled and illegal. They include cannabis, amphetamines, ketamine, barbiturates, and other dangerous substances.
Phone Snatching a Menace in London
Police Inspector Yu Zhang pointed out that the police are committed to nabbing businesspeople who handle and profit from stolen gadgets. He emphasized that their focus is not limited to thieves who snatch phones from individuals. At the same time, he said that mobile phone theft has been a big problem in London.
Following the incident, the police arrested three young men aged 22, 34, and 25, and a 63-year-old man. They are facing charges of handling stolen property, as well as possessing drugs with the intention of supplying them for consumption.
Meanwhile, police continue to man the streets with the hope of reducing incidences of phone theft, a problem that the UK discussed in parliament last year.
