Bungoma Governor Kennedy Lusaka (County Photo)

Governor Kennedy Lusaka of Bungoma County has dissolved his cabinet forthwith. He issued a press release yesterday, Thursday, 10th, 2026, saying he had invoked Section 40(1)(a) of the County Government Act.

Effectively, all executive assembly seats are now vacant, including those of the County Attorney and Secretary. The County Attorney has been Edward Oringe Waswa, while the County Secretary has been William Makhanu Nasong’o.

According to the Governor, the reorganization he is undertaking is in the public interest and in good faith.

Recent Bungoma County Problems

Bungoma County has faced several accountability challenges of late, often causing a rift between the Governor and the Senate.

For example, the county’s Ksh. 4.6 billion in pending bills has raised questions, and so has the Ksh. 549 million in unremitted staff deductions.

Besides, Bungoma Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) had already threatened to impeach the County Attorney and the CECs for Finance and Trade, among others.

It is not easy to tell what the new cabinet will look like, but Bungoma residents are waiting to see if the new appointees will deliver better services. They hope that those who replace the sacked CECs will make their appointments worthwhile before their terms end in 2027.
