Do Donald Trump’s recent actions constitute regime change? The US President has sacked most of the top brass in the US defense forces in unprecedented record time.

Through the US Department of War, Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump has sacked the Army Chief of Staff whom former President Joe Biden appointed in 2023. Randy George, the outgoing Army Chief of Staff, is the 41st US Army Chief of Staff and had one year left in his term.

According to the Pentagon, the army chief will retire with immediate effect.

By the same stroke, Trump and Hegseth have also sacked the head of the US Army’s Transformation and Training Command, General David Hodne. They have also sacked the head of the Chaplain Corps, Major General William Green.

Many Heads are Rolling in the Heat of the Iran War

At the beginning of last month, Donald Trump terminated the services of his Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem. In the same month, he relieved the Head of the National Security Council, Mike Waltz, of his duties at the department and redeployed him as the country’s UN ambassador.

Many of the sackings done in the course of the Iran war have been overseen by the Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth. They include the sackings of more than 20 Army Generals and Admirals.

The Sackings have become the Subject of Ridicule Abroad.

The US has become the butt of Iran’s joke due to the recent flurry of sackings of the US Army’s top brass. Noting Trump’s remark after the elimination of Iran’s top officials, that Iran has had a regime change, the embassy of Iran in South Africa recently posted some ridiculing images.

Those images reflected some of Trump’s recent notorious sackings. In the same caption, the embassy remarked that the change of regime “happened successfully”. They also added Trump’s slogan “MAGA” in the post alongside a laughing emoji, reminding readers that Trump’s own words about Iran have come back to haunt him.

Iran’s mocking of Trump may be a comic relief to everyone tensed up because of the Iran-US/Israeli war, but it also portrays a worrying situation. One wonders if the President’s talk about ending the war is based on anything feasible.
