US Aircraft shot down (Photo courtesy of India Times)

A US fighter aircraft, an F15-E, flew over Iran yesterday, and Iran simply shot at it. Apparently, the aircraft crashed.

A US government source has informally confirmed that incident, but the government has not made an official statement.

The source said the pilots’ whereabouts are unknown, but that they might be on the run, hiding in Iran. However, other reports indicate the plane might have had one pilot, who managed to eject within Kuwaiti airspace leaving the jet to crash on its own.

Search Aircraft Shot at Too

Following the downing of the fighter aircraft, it is said the US immediately sent two helicopters on an emergency search with a view to rescuing the pilots. However, reports say the situation has worsened. They say Iran has gone ballistic and is shooting at any foreign aircraft within its airspace.

Hence, the US helicopters have been shot at, too, and apparently gone down. One other aircraft is said to have crashed into the Persian Gulf, presumably shot down as well.

US Putting its Forces in Harm’s Way Unnecessarily

If by sending aircraft through the Iranian airspace, Trump was trying to test the waters, the way Vladimir Putin sent Russian ships to test the waters, he has made a big blunder. He has gambled with American lives, and there may be an uproar in the US.

For now, the world waits to see how things unfold in the coming hours and days.
