Yesterday was the last day Pam Bondi served as US Attorney General (AG). This may not be entirely a surprise, considering that in the last several weeks, there has been talk along the corridors of power about Trump wishing to sack her.

Nevertheless, the president tried to give her a soft landing by telling the media that there is a more important job awaiting her. Still, it is telling that the President said that the job Bondi is going for next is in the private sector.

Trump nominated Bondi as the AG in 2024, only after the frontrunner, Matt Gaetz, expressed his wish to withdraw from consideration. The Senate confirmed her in February 2025.

Before then, Bondi had worked closely with Trump, serving on his defense team during the 2020 impeachment trial. They continued to work together even after the trial, Bondi leading the legal arm of the think tank, America First Policy Institute.

Trump Seemed Dissatisfied with Bondi’s Handling of Epstein’s File

Pam Bondi has been releasing the records associated with the late pedophile and sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein, in batches. Epstein’s infamous story is revived every time a new batch comes out with fresh revelations, and that probably has irked the president.

President Trump is well known to have been friends with Epstein, and photographs of the two attending events together are in the public domain. Commenting on the gradual release of the files in September last year, Trump termed it a “distraction”.

Who is Holding Fort as US AG?

With the immediate departure of Pam Bondi, her deputy, Todd Blanche, has been appointed in an acting capacity.
