The US-Israel duo has decided to go full throttle in trying to destabilize Iran. Before Sunday dawn this weekend, they had begun to hit big oil depots in Iran. The skies around the four depots and the petroleum site hit were filled with thick smoke and flames. Residents of Tehran say the outside remained so dark for several hours Sunday morning that drivers had to switch on the headlights to see the way.
Meanwhile, Iran was busy hitting targets of the US allies. One serious hit was the Kuwait Tower in Kuwait City, which is the headquarters of the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS). Flames of fire could be seen rising from the high-rise building, following the early morning drone attack by Iran. Although emergency services rushed to control the fire, serious damage had already occurred.
Netanyahu and Trump are trying to Save Face.
This war that the US entered into without consulting either Congress or US traditional allies has taken longer than President Donald Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu anticipated. With Iran remaining a formidable opponent after an entire week of heavy aerial fighting, both Trump and Netanyahu are trying to save face.
After admitting that the war might extend up to eight weeks, Trump asserted that there must be regime change in Iran. Now, Netanyahu has reiterated Trump’s sentiments, as he urges the Iranian people to revolt against the government of Masoud Pezeshkian.
Countries not involved in the war are being targeted.
It is not just Iran that is targeting countries other than its war rival, Israel. This weekend, the US-Israel side shot missiles at Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, hitting a hotel and killing four people. It was reported that there were several other strikes in the region, but apparently, most of the country’s interceptions were successful.
With the war said to be costing the US around $890 million per day, Trump must be eager for it to come to an end. The problem is that both he and Netanyahu would like to leave the war field with their heads held high, but Iran is not giving any sign of collapse.
